The Wizard of Oz gave it a brain. It knows you don't need full-time wipers when you're stopped. Have you noticed the reversing feature? If your wipers are on and you put the car in reverse, the rear wiper swipes across the window so you can see where you're backing. When I answer questions about the car, I always offer that example of why it's called Smart.
The way the wipers work is a small thing, but really smart, and even smarter that the rear comes on when you back up. The more I drive it, the more I'm amazed at how intelligently engineered it is.
