Because Smart dealerships aren't always right around the corner so the consumer isn't afforded the luxury of just popping in and grabbing one of each. In my case, the closest dealer is 160 miles away and my preferred dealer is around 320 miles away.
It's bad enough the gas I waste everytime I head to one of them....of course if I mail order then theres the shipping & handling....like I did when I got my plugs.

The factory one is garbage but the dealer one isn't bad - I've got to give them props for that even though I prefer the Wix.
