Funny how we are all on this thread within a day or two with -1 or -2.
Since I've already changed the oil @ ~ 5000 miles, I guess I'll just reset. Unless of course there are things that the dealer will do for free under the warranty.
I should know this, but do we have an all-inclusive warranty like the MINI where the in-warranty visits are free? TIA
tm
P.S. Checked the scangauge before logging on - no codes.
If you mean all-inclusive as in free service items (brakes, oil, wipers, etc.) for x number of miles - no. Warranty repair work is covered - all else is cost plus.
I am back from the service center. It took an hour to have it done like they said it would. Having internet access and being to watch tv or play pool helps pass the time. They are very friendly. There is a white cabrio in the waiting area.
There are a lot Fortwos in the Smart Center Edison show room. There are many to chose from.
Does anyone know if this is an intelligent indicator, ie it knows there is something wrong or is it the dumb common european system (like saab and BMW) that triggers a service warning at a specified time or mileage. I only have 6k on my smart and don't really want to take the time off to drag it in for service if it's the 10k service that is going off early because it's been 1 year since last service/ since it's creation, lol. With everyone getting the warning about the same time, I expect that it is more or less reminding us of it's birthday and not so much a true need for service... then again, don't really want to blow it up (much) either.

It is just a birthday reminder (set a bit early or based on build date it seems because ours was not delivered to the dealer and purchased until March but the countdown started a month ago). If anything it serves the basic service of reminding people that a car's oil should be changed at minimum once a year even if it has low miles.
PS: Fwiw with the BMW maintenance system it did not remind us to change the oil once a year with a low mileage car even though the manual stated you should have it done. Was a bit of a pain insisting on getting the covered maint without the idiot light telling the techs it was time.

Very nice. I wonder if most service centers provide such amenities? I'd especially enjoy WiFi.

I do not know about the wifi but there was a hand full of computers to brows the internet on or play games with. It was neat not only seeing Smart cars but also Mercedes cars, Porches and other cars that Ray Catena sells being serviced.
The instructions I followed didn't work at first until I "interpreted" them, so I'm posting my own version, which worked successfully for me the first time I tried.
1. Begin this procedure with the ignition in the off position (position 0).
2. Switch the ignition to position 1 (accessory on).
3. Activate the maintenance indicator in the instrument display by pressing the left instrument cluster button twice (double-press). You are successful when you see the wrench icon and the odometer readout changes to indicate the number of days until the next service (this may be a negative number).
4. Switch off the ignition (position 0) within 10 seconds. If the wrench icon disappears before you switch the ignition off, restart the procedure from the beginning.
5. Push and hold the left instrument cluster button and immediately switch the key to position 1 (accessory on). It is not necessary to switch the engine on. Note that if you hesitate after pressing the left instrument cluster button before switching the ignition key to position 1, you will reset your trip odometer instead.
6. Continue holding the left instrument cluster button for approximately 10 seconds. You will be successful when the maintenance service interval changes to "10000" and the flashing wrench changes to a solid wrench. You may now release the left instrument cluster button and the wrench icon will disappear.
