2005 ForTwo headlights and fog lamps not working right?

I have a 2005 Fortwo Passion Cab that was one of the G&K conversions for the U.S. - it was probably imported from Germany (the manual's in German). Three questions regarding the headlights and fog lamps:

1. Did the 2005 ForTwoPassion Cabriolet come standard with a fog lamp control switch on the console, or was that extra?

2. My fog lamps automatically turn on and off with the headlamps - I can't
control them separately. Is that right for this model?

3. When I leave and lock my car with the headlamps on, they turn off automatically as they should. However, the fog lamps do not turn off. This doesn't seem right to me - I think they're also supposed to turn off. I've already had a dead battery once because I forgot about this and I would like to not have this happen again (as I know it inevitably will!)

Thanks to the experts who know the answers!

Hi*SS, I don't know how long you have had you smart but if it is a typical G&K smart you don't have fog lights up front, those are the parking lights/turn signals. They come on with the first position of the headlight switch, the next position is the headlights and the third position is the rear fog which is where you would normally find the left back-up light. If you leave your lights on, turn off the ignition and open the drivers door you should hear a warning "bong". Your parking lights will be on but your headlights will be off. The ignition turns off the headlights and the drivers door opening sounds the "bong" which reminds you the switch and parking lights are on.

Now that I reread you post, the above describes the coupe, the cab has a different tail light but I'm pretty sure the function is the same.

Cheers, Dan

HI*SS,

I have two G&K Auto converted 2005 Euro Smart ForTwos and one of them has the fog light switch (its from Germany) and the other does not (its from England).

It is supposed to control the fog lights. Since a conversion was done on these, you should be able to buy foglights to install at the fog light place in the front bumper and then have them wired to the foglight switch. Most US Smart dealerships should be able to do this.
