Hey All
As expected, I got lower MPG on the 100% highway trip
http://www.spritmonitor.de/en/detail/194504.html a whopping 40.8 MPG.
I kept it @ 70-75 MPH most of the time (using my cruse control), and let it shift in auto, on the back roads I can accelerate slowly, but on the highway (for safety) I kept up with the traffic flow.
I am actually surprised I even got to the 40 MPG, the trip computer was reading in the high 30's most of the time), I did nothing on this trip to HyperMile (mainly for safety reasons), I once thought of seeing what the MPG difference would be of drafting a tractor trailer, but it is a dangerous thing to do and I can live not knowing what the difference is.
Other than that it was a fine ride, quite, comfortable, wife slept most of the trip, with lots of beeps, thumbs up, and some laughing and pointing.
As we can see the Smart is not made (aerodynamically) for high speeds, and this is true for the 451 too, so if one was thinking of a Smart just to get good MPG when they drive most of the time on the highway there are better cars than the Smart for good highway MPG.
While the wife was sleeping (not talking) and I was in driving/thinking mode, I was thinking about the fact that the 450 model has ended, no more will be added to the US ranks and everyone who owns a 450 already knows what I'm posting about, then I had an
Epiphany, am I preaching to the quire with these kinds of posts.
I know my cruse control (for a handy person) is a good alternative to MDCs, I also know my recent Trip Computer build too is a good alternative, those posts have added some value ( "BUT ONLY" to the 1026 owners out there) BUT do these MPG posts

?
At this stage we ALL know my MPG will be in the 50s when I finish my back road test, BUT so what

, what difference will it make

to anyone.
The Engineer in me, is chastising myself for doing detail work on a discontinued product that adds no value.
Nothing I say (in these kind of posts) will help a person make a better informed decision, BECAUSE the 450 is no longer made, so there is NO decision to be made.
WOW didn't I just go "Cybil" Hee Hee Hee

. But in reality, we 1026 owners need to stay in touch, BECAUSE we will need each others help from time to time. So I will stop posting this crap and stick to posting about things that will help my fellow 450 owners.
New England is having a really strange winter, it will be cold and snowy again tomorrow, once the weathers gets better and I can finish the easier Cruse Control install, I'll post the photos and all the details (for those of the 1026 HANDY 450 owners who DON'T already have cruse control).
Time for my medication
