reset.txt file from my collection... is this what you did?

Here's how to reset your service indicator:

1. Switch on ignition. (But do not start car!)
2. Select maintenance indicator (so it's in the display) within the first 4 seconds.
3. Switch off the ignition within the display period of 10 seconds. (Maintenance should remain in the display).
4. Push the service button (button on the left of the cluster) and hold it while you switch the ignition on.
5. Hold the service button depressed for another 10 seconds. After that the oil change interval display is reset.
6. After completing this task, the display shows the remaining distance (startup distance) for the next maintenance interval.

I get the double wrench and have always been past the mileage rather than the calendar; so I think it is something else. I believe it says in the manual though.

There are two service protocols - mostly the same items on the list but some things are only done at every other service interval. One wrench is for the "A" service and two wrenches indicate the "B" service interval.

Evilution - Smart Car Encyclopaedia

This sight is the best one going for the smart car. It is an e-chiltons manual

we bought an '09 fortwo on Black Friday of 2009. I just changed the oil at 10211 with Mobil 1 0W-40. none of the described directions on this site or Evilution worked on resetting the MIL after I changed the oil... driver door open or not as mentioned by Evilution...

this is the only procedure that worked for me the very first time I tried it.

1) key to position 1.
2) tap the left button on the instrument cluster but hold it on the 2nd tap.
3) turn off the ignition.
4) release the button.
5) quickly press the button again before turning on the ignition, then
6) turn key to position 1.
6) continue to press & hold the left button.

within approx. 10 seconds the display will stop flashing the wrench, reset, and if you are past the maint. date the -## will change to 10000 and you will get TWO wrenches in the display, one is set behind & partly hidden by the first one.

I fought this with the other sets of directions for 15-20 minutes and got quite frustrated b/c I "thought" I was being informed by people who knew what was going on. leaving out a critical step in the process doesn't help when programming computers and that's basically what this is.

hope this helps anyone else having problems with this.

btw, the search engine on this forum kinda sux *ss.

any Admins can gladly delete this post or whatever. I only logged in today to post this to possibly help someone else who might have been trusting info on this and another site. while I HAVE found that some info on Evilution is invaluable, this particular procedure didn't work at all.

and, just cause I want to vent a little, I got fed up with some of the pissy and cranky members on this site a long time ago and I'll likely never be back. I have better things to spend my time on than getting criticized for stating facts.

The single wrench is for the 10K service interval, the double wrench is for the 20K interval.

Heraldhamster, sorry you had trouble. I spent 2 days resetting the indicator and what worked on my 08 didn't work on my 09. Since there is no readily available service manual, most of the information is what has worked for others. I agree, the search function is almost impossible to get a good result.
