Brakes & Rust

I have a 2006 Passion and lately it seems that if the car sits for more than 48 hours, the front discs start to rust pretty bad. Once I drive it for a couple of miles and use the brakes, it wears off, but I can't believe that this is not good for the brakes. The other thing is when I apply the brakes during this time they make sounds like metal against metal. The front wheels get the dust from the rust and look awful!

Anyone else having this problem?

As an FYI, I only have 4100 miles on the car.

Thanks for any advice.

All disc brake cars do this particularly after a rain. If the rotors are wet when the vehicle is parked and the rotors are not hot enough to dry them before the car is parked will develop surface rust.

Yes, I notice this on the brakes as well. I washed the car yesterday and seen it. But it was on my Kia also. Heck, in the kia's later years, I would hear the grinding at the first stop sign. Then I would not hear it after that. Just was rust wearing off I guess.

Perfectly normal.

As others have said, I have watched my rotors rust on several cars as I was washing them in the driveway. Haven't seen it on All Ball yet because the only wash I've given him myself was with his winter Pure steel wheels on.

common for rotors to get a flash rust. Unless it is parked for an extended period in wet weather, I wouldn't worry about it.

Thanks everyone for your replys. I guess that I just never really notice it on my other vehicles.

Brakes & Dust sounds like an old album by Joan Baez ?
