EGR Bypass

I saw an article on FQ101 website about bypassing and removal of the EGR pump assembly on the 450 . FQ101 : Taking Modification to the Next Level Has anyone done this without any problems?

Depending what state you live in this could fail you you on a visable smog inspection. It is easer to slip a peace of metal under the egr tube to block it off. As far as the air pump, it pumps air into the exhaust when the engine is cold to help warm up the converter to get it working faster. This does not harm the power. I do not have one on my engine.

The EGR Valve is part of your "Federal Emission System". By federal law, it is ILLEGAL to tamper with any component of this system. You could face fines of THOUSANDS OF $$'s if caught. It would be the same as removing your catalytic converter. A BIG NO NO!

I was wondering, cause the article claims it is really not necessary on this engine. And removal has no effect on emmissions. They don't really do much testing where I live. Wonder if it would be good or bad for the engine.

I just don't like the sound of the electric pump when you first start the engine. Sounds like a sweeper. I can't see that it really does anything anyway. Takes up a lot of space in the engine conpartment.
