If you need a TAN code for your FOB I have them for free. I will need the computer generated number to get the TAN number. The number is created when the key teach in is preformed. The VIN number is only used for TAN code for the cruise control and other things.

Leroy

P.S. The smart centers may not be able to work on the older smart cars because they do not have the software on their Star systems. It seams someone does not want them to work on the gray market cars.

That makes sense. Unfortunately the MB shop is not that familiar with the software. I give them a lot of credit for even bothering with this. They didn't charge me anything even though they had the car all day yesterday. They said they would be willing to try again if I get them the code. As you say Leroy, it sounds like the software can generate a number that you can create the TAN code from when the software is in key teach mode.

I'm thinking at this point, I should order another FOB and drive to KC to have the 2 programmed. Leroy, would you be able to help me if I brought the car to you?

I have 5 FOBs waiting to be programed. The FOBs are about $85.00 ea. If you have used ones from other smart cars I can program them also.
If your dealer is willing I can wing them through the teach-in key and give them a TAN code to do it. Sometimes it can take 2 or 3 TAN codes to work.

PM me and I will give you my phone number.

Thanks Leroy. I hope to be contacting soon (still working through things). I'll probably want to get one of those FOBs from you and a TAN code as well. Thanks again.

Might I suggest doing some sort of group/mass plan for the Rally in Kansas City?? you could have peopl;e sign up beforehand and arrange times to have spare keys made up similar to what they did for the Rally in Wisconsin Dells. I wouldn't mind having a 3rd key for my car....

Can you handle the newer cars too?? (2008-2009)

Great Idea

How about Labor day weekend 2010, I'd be up for something like that and if Leroy could do ECU upgrades (performance code) then it would really make it worth the trip,

Just a thought

You could count me in for a meet-up in KC.

Leroy; judging by the character and demeanor you have shown on this board, I would be honored to meet and be able to spend some time with you.

With your permissions, PM me your phone # including a convenient time window and I will call you

I can program the new cars also. Just remember to program the Brabus option you have to install a lot of Brabus items on the car to make it work right.
That would be a great meet to have everyone show up to get their cars updated. Labour Day 2010 should be no problem.
I work cheap, a Big Mac and fries is all I need.

Okay. Thanks to Leroy I was able to program my new FOB. I now have 2 working FOB's. I'm very thrilled to have achieved this!
Now I just need the stick (key part) made. Do I just go to a mercedes parts dealer for that?

Yup. No good answers for this stuff, I'm afraid.

There is currently available an aftermarket (i.e., not OEM parts) maker of immobilizer keys. We saw their setup at our local upscale hardware store this past week, and they claim to be able to program the chips in the keys to match any maker's efforts without reprogramming all of the rest of the keys.

However, they can't deal with the Mercedes style keys...
