Hey ladcad
Deciding to buy a gray market Smart (especially now) should be researched throughly. I bought 1 and have many good thing to say about it, but rather than blow smoke up your azz, let me tell you some of the down falls.
No parts support in the USA, you'll have to get all needed parts from Ca or the EU, they have most if not every part you'll ever need BUT it is costly.
Limited service, there are very few G&K/Zap trained mechanics in the US, so unless you plan on doing the service yourself or using your talented brother/father/sister/etc. you could get stuck broken down with no where to turn.
Buying a Gray Smart is calculated risk and depending on the person that risk varies, I am (100%) guessing but I think G&K has done between 800-1,000 conversions, and as time goes by that # will shrink and what limited support there is in the US will only dwindle.
I know what I am saying sounds bleak, but if you don't understand this going in then once realized, panic may set in.
Now that I've made it sound like the sky is falling

there is a Zap/G&K dealer in Exeter NH with an in house G&K trained mechanic, nice guy I've spoken to him and he does know the Gray Smart ( I chewed his ear off while he changed my oil
