My thoughts exactly.

For those who aren't familiar with it, a turbo timer is a device that will keep the engine running for a pre-programmed amount of time after you switch off the ignition and remove the key, thus allowing the oil time to circulate while the turbo cools. It is quite convenient, because you can exit and lock the car as you normally would, and when the time is up the engine simple shuts off.

babybenz, excellent idea but as cassini75 said, not really an option on the 450.

Padawan, I love that idea and wish they were possible to install on the 450. Maybe the turbo kit for the 451 has one?

Cassini75, I have been able to lock my car while it is running. I put it in Neutral, pull the hand brake, roll down the window on the passenger sidem get out, walk over to passenger side, reach in and press lock then roll window up so I can just get my hand on the door handle inside.

Yes its a lot of work and thats why I'm separating the key from the fob today

If you want a stainless knob like I have, I have a spare made up I can send out

will be making a nice small one that will fit the 451 shortly

that would be great, but only if you aren't going to use it yourself.

Tell me what it costs to ship and all that and I'll cover it.

So to minimize the work, do you think just taking it easy on the gas pedal before reaching your destination would cool down the turbo enough to extend its life?

let the car idle for a few minutes before shut-off if the engine temps are high. this will hopefully reduce bearing, housing and oil temperatures enough to prevent high heat soak and any coking.

Ernie at Breathless Perfromance in Dania installed an oil recirculator on my turbo with a timer. The oil pump runs while the engine is on and continues for an adjustable amount of time after the car is turned off. I can lock my doors and walk away from the car and after one minute the oil pump stops.

Could I see what it looks like? I made mine out of a rubber stopper shoved inside a cologne bottle top, which works but isn't quite as nice as I envisioned. Thought about using an appliance knob, but haven't tried it yet.

is it in line with the normal oil feed, add on separately with its own lines or something else?

you need to be careful when adding components in the oil feed plumbing. poor engineering or failures can cause starvation making the problem a lot worse than the possibility of heat soak. good, clean flowing oil with short unrestricted flow can allow a turbo to last for 100,000 miles or more. even at 14-20 lbs of boost.

Turbo Timers ENJOY, you will need to find a harness for the smart or do some splicing.
