Oil pan w/drain hole and magnetic drain plug

Don't know if this would be of any use to 450 owners but it's on eBay for $106:

Thanks - just happened across it while searching eBay for smart parts. Didn't realize you had to suck the oil out of the 450s to do an oil change.

Thank you for the post "jwight", It's what I would expect from a person of your stature.

Hey all

At first I too thought having to suck out the oil would bite (until I did it the first time)

I have a 18 inch long piece of 1/4 in SS tubing, attached to some 3/8 Tygon tubing. this goes to a special cap I made for my 1 gallon container bottles, a second hose goes to this cap with some more Tygon.
I connect the second hose to a Small Gast vacuum pump, I pull the dip stick, insert the SS tubing, turn on the pump and empty the oil pan with out ever bending down.
I then seal the 1 gallon bottle with a standard cap, put it aside and wait for recycle day.

Oil filter is just as easy, sitting (cross legged) I use my socket on a long extension (comes past the back bumper) and unscrew the cap, replace with new cartridge and o"ring. drop in just about 4 quarts on syn oil and I'm done,

OOHH and about the magnet I have 3 rear earth magnets zip tied around the plastic cartridge to catch things, but I have to agree a magnet at the very bottom of the oil pan would be the best..

450 Oil Changers

Without trying to home-devise all kinds of oil extraction devices for 450s, know that they are readily available through marine supply sources, e.g. http://www.westmarine.com. It very often happens that a marine engine is so installed that there is no access under it to drain engine oil (even though it may have a sump and drain plug). It is very common practice to extract used engine oil with a vacuum pump through the dip stick tube.

Re: smarts, well, my own sailboat auxiliary diesel is in fact derived from a MITSUBISHI K2AS forklift engine. Built like a sort of brick-constructed “out-building.”

Last couple of trips to Europe I noticed coin operated oil extraction machines outside of gas stations so you can do a quikie oil change, seams to be very common over there.
