Oil Question

Hi,

I need to get my oil changed and am not sure if I can use American oil or need to order some from Europe.

I have a 2000 Smart.

Thank you!

Autozone in my area stocks the Mobil 1 0W-40 synthetic oil specified by MB 229.5. Check you local auto parts dealers that sell Mobil 1.

Whenever I do a sharp turn or a U turn, my oil light comes on. I also looked into the oil tank and I can see the bottom on the gear inside.

Does this mean I need to put more oil in or just get an oil change?

I am planning on changing the oil soon. Can a regular oil change place do a 2000 Smart and if not, where did you go to change your oil?

Thank you!

Your 2000 has NO drain plug OR spin on filter! You have to "suck" the oil out through the dipstick and change the "canister" filter.

You need to check out Kane's site : Evilution - Smart Car Encyclopaedia

I bought the car back in October. So essentially, I have to purchase a pump to take out the oil and then replace it with new oil?

I just checked and unfortunately, I am dipstickless.

Anyone know where I can get a new dipstick for a 2000?

Sorry for being such a noob, haha D:

For a dipstick, contact SCOA member "rgaus" at asmartcar.com - Don't be Foolish on Smart Car Choices.

Otherwise, there are spin-on filter adapters and oil pans with drain plugs available. And, reasonably priced vacuum oil extractor tanks are readily available too.
