My new 2008 smart is a Red/Silver Passion Coupe. Same color as our original that we received in February 2006 for the St. Louis Mardi Gras Parade. We had to return that one to G&K for final approvals, but got it back in April 2006. That smart is living on an island near Cumberland Island in Georgia right now.
I really wanted one of the new ones so I could better compare the features between the new and the old. (Ordered 4/23/07, received 5/23/08). I'll be putting Ultraseal in all the tires this week. That will tell me what happens with the tire pressure sensing devices and the monitoring system. Two problems with the new one so far (my problems, not its problems). I keep shifting gears on the new one and putting it in Neutral! The 451 owners will know what I mean. The way to switch from manual to auto in the new ones is to slide the shifter sideways to the +/_ area. On the 450's, you know that you gently nudge the shifter forward (even in automatic) in order to go to the next gear. On the 451's layout, the Automatic function has Drive at the bottom and Neutral right above it. So... shove the gearshift forward and your freewheeling! I'll get used to it. The other item that surprised me was the power steering. Really unnecessary option. Very sensitive based upon my experience with the 450's, but I'm sure it was kept as an option for the perceived American buying public. I'll get used to that too. The new one is just as great a car as the old in my opinion. Long live smarts. Smarts are Changing America One Smile at a Time!

I wish that were the case Kane! It sure would make things a bit easier.
Ah, there is a difference between them having the hardware/software to do it and them being too scared to use it. It's a model they are unfamiliar with, it's probably just easier for them to turn it away than to cause themselves possible problems while working on it.
I've had my 450 in the US since December 2006 and after almost 60k miles, have gotten pretty good at doing my own service.
I've got full checklists for A and B service and some good sources for parts should anyone need anything. Feel free to use me as a resource should you have any questions or need help with anything!
Halon, Hi, I just joined the Quorum. However, I've had my 2005 Smart Passion Cabriolet for two years. You mentioned having detailed maintenance for A and B. Is this something you wouldn't mind e-mailing to me?? Gayle
I live in Los Angeles, have a 2005 ForTwo Passion Cabrio, and I've been directed to this small German car specialist in Mar Vista near Santa Monica:

I just had my first A service, and everything seems fine - it may be my imagination, but the car actually seems to run a little faster now. The bill came to $195 for the straight basic service - what have others experienced cost-wise?
They haven't worked on a great number of Smarts (just a few of the early pioneers here), but they're interested in doing more of this work, and I feel confident about them.
for those who do not already know, in South Carolina I maintain an inventory of A and B parts.
Please visit the ebay store shown below.
thanks to those who have supported us for many years.
