Sounds like more than JUST a 702...Codes should almost always be diagnosed "lowest number first..."
If you're losing communication, a LOT of things can go wrong.
I'd start first with power and ground leads at the ECU. (Don't overlook connections at the battery.)
Then look for wires that are "twisted pairs" at the computer. Make sure those are not cut or shorted.

Good luck.

Do you have a code reader or did you go to the dealership?

Correct me if I am wrong, but are we dealing with a 450 here?

more detail

nycpr

Where you said .6L as the motor size, is this a G&K Smart, EU or a Ca Smart?

Did you do the code reading because you having a "Driving " problem?

If a driving problem, what are the problems (need a few details here)?

When did it start, did it all start at once, and was there an evet when it all started ( hit a snow bank, dog pee'ed on back tire, etc).

I too would be looking for wet, loose, dirty connectors, or maybe even a transmission ground.

Let us know

ASM

The code P0702 is not a normal smart code. All smart codes for the transmission start with P2XXX. That is a generic code. Did you use a OBD-2 scanner or the Mercedes STAR system? Does the key FOB work? Does it Lock and unlock the doors?
