Second day of operation Hee Hee Hee

Hey All

Well I went to work and found the BUZZ about the car was bigger than I thought (everyone thought it was owned by a gay woman who drives a Toyota Pr.) she is a true friend of mine (she got a ride today and was impressed) and I apologize for the confusion (that she said was NOT needed).

I had a BLAST today (now that everyone knew who owned that car), I felt like the quarter back on a winning high school football team (but still balked at the "Price" question).

Again, I went to pass a truck this morning (@75 MPH) and was met with a guy who floored it, I'm not sure why, BUY he did (this was after we made eye contact).

Because of the US regulations, C&K had to put padding on the glass roof (this is tough to remove the Contact Cement) but almost done and really happy with the results (still have 1/4th to do so it is ugly on the inside).

On the breaking and cornering thing, I found that the car CAN'T down shift fast enough, so when coming out of the corner, you are in the same gear before the breaking, solution is to just give it gas and it will go to the proper gear.

OOHH there won't be a "Day 3" (come on this will get boring Hee Hee Hee) but days will be replaced with WEEKS then MONTHS.

I await the applying for a vanity plate, I'm gong for FORTWO if that is taken then FOR-TWO or 4-TWO, maybe FOR-2,etc

Well enough babble for tonight, Later All

ASM

That quarter back comment is hilarious! Congratulations on the purchase and don't let anything get you down about the purchase price!

I guess that is why the new ones are polycarbonate!

I don't think

SmartCard

I don't think the US version will come with the same poly roof as the ones you test drove. This padding was for head protection in the event of a roll over (side pillars are padded as well).

SmartCard I don't want to treat this part of the thread as my own, I PMed the administrator and asked him to please make a spot on the forum for the gray owners, I am truly hoping they will join in, granted I get most tech info from the EU thread, but there are enough gray models out there that this may be a great resource for us.

Contact cement almost gone PHEW what a job

Hi- We've been gone the last 5 eeks so hadn't read anything. What do you know about trailers for our for two's. We want to take it behind the motor home. I understand that it has to be trailered but don't know where to find them. Any ideas? Glad you like your smart. We are STILL waiting for the cruise control and the card has lived in Exeter since we sa you there. We are not very happy campers about that. Suzan

Hey

Hey Suzan

I found a lot of other gray owners hang here http://www.clubsmartcar.ca/forums/vi...38b0bc982da89a as far as trailering goes, any trailer that can handle 1630 lbs of the car would work (1 ton trailer). Here are a few picture you may find inspiring http://good-times.webshots.com/photo...86335071BCFiHQ of a trailering option .

I too (after driving my Smart for a while) decided I wanted cruise control, there are only 3 options (I have found so far).

1: Buy a Cruise Control / wiper/washer arm/stalk - Cabrio/Roadster from a place like here http://www.smart-parts-direct.com/acatalog/Instrumentation.htmlbut then it needs to be activated ( new instructions need to be sent to the on board computer for it of become functional) by a M.B. computer that has the TAN (just the codes name) for the cruse control. I know of a few places in Canada that do it BUT they are on the west coast.

2: Buy this and self install http://www.smartieparts.com/shop/ind...roducts_id=109 I feel it's a little pricey, we know how much the arm stalk goes for, BUT they did engineer it so you can have stock arm and don't have to get the TAN code installed for it to work.

3: Build your own (this is my path), where my career is in electronics, I was going to build one, but I've decided to go a different route (cost a few bucks more, but will only take a few hours to install), I have on order this http://www.brandsplace.com/0002-ccs100.html and will install during my vacation week over Memorial Day (I'll take a few pictures and share if anyone else has an interest)

Why is the car still in Exeter, what is it there waiting for cruise control?

OOHH this may be the kind of trailer you are looking for, it was actually designed for motorcycles, but has a rating of 4,000 Lbs http://www.bigtextrailers.com/traile...axle/35MC.html

Welcome BACK

Yes, the new ones do have a polycarb roof which meet US safety standards. However with a lot of elbow grease, you eventually will get all the remnants of adhesive off the glass roof. We disposed of those pads the first week we had ours and then ordered the sliding panel (saw it on the UK web site and then ordered from a dealership in Vancouver, BC... but had to go pick it up since they would not ship across the border).

I also removed the padding from my glass roof, and ordered the sunshade from Eddy at Flying Tiger http://www.flyingtiger.ca/. He shipped it without any issues.
