Well

It may be after this post that someone suggests I go out and get a life (like that will be the first time I've ever heard that).

Wife and I spent the last 2 days data recording all the individual details available on the Auterra 300 with the 2006 .7 L passion.

Disclaimer: I bought the scanner that is to be used with a Palm Pilot, I also bought Windows software so I could test the scanner/code reader on my lap top before I spent the money on a PDA with a built in GPS, so the items I claim did not work or seemed WAY out of scale may have to do with this fact, or they could be real problems.

The person I did the marathon e-mail session with at Auterra, I'll forward him this kink so everyone (who else may be interested) will get a direct answer as well.

Now for the fun part

Item named: B1 S2 gave a flat line with no indication of any data being sent

: Distance traveled too flat lined as though no data was available

: Fuel Trim 1 B1 FLAT LINE

: Recorded fuel used FLAT LINED, no data

: Recorded fuel used D2 FLAT LINED, no data

:Long fuel B2 dead too

:Travel distance miles DEAD, this one being the last dead input.

all the rest of the data profiles are below

I get the GPS/PDA tomorrow so in a few days I'll show the final set up and see if using the PDA cleared some of those errors I saw with the lap top.

Stay tuned, it's just starting to getting fun

EDIT: OOHH the beginning of each trace was from a dead stop, and each road the speed limit was 50-55 so the traces transition from 0 MPH up up 50 MPH. ASM

OK void of some posts

Hey All

Since the crash of last weekend and the last backup date being the 10th a few of my posts have been lost

Let me start by saying that this mod will most likely work on the 451, but I built this because my trip computer options for the 450 were VERY limited.

As we know the Scangauge II works in Ca but not the US G&K or EU.
We also know the Xgauge works in the EU but not on the G&K Smart.
MDC works on all 3 but I got such crap for making my own cruse control I decided to build my own rather than buy one of theirs.

This will be a LONG post (to catch up) and to bring this thread to it's (almost) end.

First we'll start with the functions of the ScanGauge II http://www.scangauge.com/products/ has a lot going for it but it too has data that is useless unless you are a mechanic.

Then we go to the X gauge, some cool options but some of the same quasi useless info. http://www.welte-engineering.ch/page...e_english.html

MDC http://www.smartsrus.com/cgi-bin/sh0...52_2emount_2e1

I'll let you search around for pertinent info.

In the end I built my own using this PDA/GPS unit http://cgi.ebay.com/GARMIN-iQUE-3200...QQcmdZViewItem
I got for $127.50

I bought this and got a SCOA 10% discount http://www.auterraweb.com/dyforpacan.html and the windows software ( wanted to test before I bought a PDA) http://www.auterraweb.com/dyforwiso.html got a 10% discount on both

BUT to test on the lap top (lap tops no longer come with serial com ports) so I had to spend $37 for this http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1110263657278
BUT this cost is ONLY if you are going to use a current lap top

Then I had to spend $25 for this https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=959 and it broke the first time I used it A(good thing I have good soldiering skills and a microscope) but this is ONLY if you plan on using a PDA to monitor the OBD.

Here are the specs for the windows version ( has a few more options) and for the PDA http://www.auterraweb.com/dyforpacan.html#tab2 windows http://www.auterraweb.com/dyforpacan.html#tab2

The funny part is my trip computer doesn't measure out door temp. trip mileage, indoor temp. etc BUT heck my car already does that for me ( I know I'm getting a little testy here) but in the end the data I get from my set up is the same data you get from the other setups and in some cases for a lot less money.

OOHH and the cost, I'm about having to upgrade my lap top, that cost was so I could run a program that I finally got to work but to lose in the end because I let MS update my XP. I will downgrade my XP, then BEG AND PLEAD with my donor to borrow the software again (I didn't make a proper backup copy).

So to conclude (finally I know) if SG II works on 451s. if X Gauge works on 451s then this would be a useless mod if it wasn't for the GPS option.

I spent a lot of money to make this project work, so for those who want to follow get this OBD http://www.auterraweb.com/dyforpacan.html get this cable https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=959 and this PDA http://cgi.ebay.com/GARMIN-iQUE-3200...QQcmdZViewItem

So in the end (Just for these parts)$127.50 (pda). $209.99(-10%) for the OBD and and $25 for the cable for a grand total of $343.00.

Not a bad price when you add a GPS unit, BUT in the end I MUST say to EVERYONE don't go buying anything just yet, I still have some tests to do. I have a 400 mile trip to NY I need to do in a few days also, first reports say the car likes 40-50 MPH roads MUCH better than it likes the highway.

Well enough for 1 night

Next report will be about trip to NY and the shift points my computer wants me to use (OOHH just as a heads up my computer wants me in 6th @ 40 MPH on a flat road, but it is putting me in the 70 MPG range or so the computer says)

Later All

Thanks for the recap ASM; one obvious issue for the 451s is no 6th gear so the program will have to deal with that.

Hey All

Howdy ;)

I was kinda reminded I never finished my final evaluation of this set up.

1st, in the lap top form it does average data logging and capture, where not many people drive around with a lap connected to their car, and those who do are SERIOUS, this is NOT the mod for you, BUT now saying that.

That OBD II scanner/reader connected to that PDA/GPS Garmin unit ended to be more useful than expected.

Of course (my HyperMile thread) this was the instrument that gave me the instant MPG as well as RPM (data I wanted to know) that allowed me to get 47 MPG and also told me to expect lower MPG at highway speeds The 428 Mile Trip to NY and I got what I kind of expected.

What is cool to (me), because of my electronics background. I was able to connect the RS232 to the 12 volt car adapter unit (if you want to try this, I'll provide pictures and details, BUT if you have never held a soldiering iron before, don't even ask, SORRY TO SOUND RUDE).

My (set up) OBD II is Always looking at instant MPG and RPM and my trip (GPS) is running in the background and because I'm using the 12 volt adapter (that has it's own speaker and volume control), the moment the GPS is about to make an announcement, the OBD goes to the back ground and the loaded map comes up with arrows and voice commands.

NOW, do I use it everyday, well the answer is "No", did I use it when I went to NY, well the answer is "YES". Now that I know what I need to do to HyperMile, watching the instant data is kinda useless (except for the RPM data).

In the end, it took a shot time for me to learn what I needed to do to get the most (MPG wise) out of this car, so other than code resets and RPM the OBD part of this mod is done, BUT!!!!! the GPS/PDA unit that cost me about $125 is priceless, WHO sells a car GPS for "My" grand total of about $360 (PDA/GPS/OBD) it was still a deal (even though in the end I'll only be using the GPS unit).

Well for those who may want to follow, realize in the end, the only thing you'll be using (in the end)is a a GOOD GPS and code re-setter

I hope it helped

ASM
