Windshield Cost for 450

My normal supplier for the 450 (dealer) quoted about $600 for the glass plus shipping (plus local installation). I used a service called Windshield Replacement & Auto Glass Quotes in 10 Seconds - Glass.net and found two local suppliers in St. Louis that will come to my location and install the glass for $345. Just wanted to pass this word along...

Edit: It's now three hours after I "ordered" my windshield. Seems that the first supplier can't get the windshield. I'll update as soon as I get the whole story. I'm also going to follow up with the glass.net website in order to have them better police their associated dealers. -Ron

Sounds good to me!! When my car was every bit of one month old in January, a boat I had hanging by the rafters in my garage decided to descend onto Mr. Bean and my other car - broke both windshields.

The window for the Smart was about $450 for the glass alone, but my Acura was around $200. The obvious reason then was that there were no aftermarket windshields available for the Smart, whereas they were for the more common Acura. From your description is sounds like the aftermarket folks have done their thing and made a window for our cars. Pretty easy to tell - my replacement has the Smart artwork embedded into the glass - yours likely will have PPG or other glass manufacturer.

Don't thank me too fast...

We now have two of the three suppliers that have said they can't get the 450 windshields. This sounds like a more serious research project for me. Sorry to get folks excited too quickly. I'll bet somebody up there in Canada is supplying these a lot more cheaply than a dealership.

rgaus, not sure what you've tried/where you've looked so forgive me if you've seen what i'm about to mention.

Have you tried looking on FastEddy's site? I found two windshields for sale; one with blue tint and one with green tint. However, I'm not certain if they are Smart Genuine. I'm sure an email to FastEddy could answer that.

To find them,

• on the left hand navigation, click Smart
• then click Servicing Parts
• the windshields should be the first two items at the top

Green tint is listed as $394CAD or $338.357USD
Blue tint is listed as $427.90CAD or $367.47USD

Those prices do not include shipping. Hope it helps.

Thanks, briansmart. That windshield pricing is much better than dealer pricing, but again, the freight on shipping a windshield is not cheap ($150 from Canada?) and the installation is another add-on. I was hoping for a one stop shop glass distributor with local installers in the US to be able to provide a turn key answer for around $400. I'll keep checking, though it does help to know that flying tiger has that solution. Thanks again.

Perhaps someone can do a group buy for a dozen or so; and I can ship to a central location. I can provide a group buy rate and also lower the cost of shipping. 20 pieces would probably take up 10' of a container.

I feel like I'm the lucky one that came across a great source for a reasonably priced front windshield for the 450 SMART. In one short day I ordered and the next day had installed, at my location, lifetime warranty for leaks or defects as long as I own this car for $279 installed. Several locations, several states but based out of Il ... I'm in GA. Not OEM but when I was quoted $600+ from my Benz dealership... I'll take this one.
