Some finds that I found recently.

Somehow My Smart has two not one "neutral " gears for some odd reason "P N R N D +-" is how the transmission is set up. I don't really see a point to two nuteutral gears but mehh. I love my Smart's really weard and cool features.

Smart's are alive??? My friend bought a battery operated amp ment for guitars and desides to turn it on in my car while we are going down the road...Right as its turned on,you hear a pitch noise that gets higher or lower pitch and for a few mins I wonder what it is while my friend freaks out saying "Your car's alive!! Your car's alive wholly Sh**". I'm trying to calm him down with the "My car is kinda weard I know"....

So yea some interesting things

There's two on the '13, but you only need to pull one.

Smog pump doesn't turn on in 41F weather or thereabouts. Thought mine was broken until I started it around noon when the gauge read 74F, and it did start up....

(Sorry if this is mentioned before. I'm too lazy to read through all the posts on this thread!)

Could you post a photo of your gear selector? All NA 451s have the same PRND sequence on the "auto" side. and the "+" "-" setup on the "manual" side.

I may have an incling of what's going on with the shifter. If you are mid positions, moving from one to the next I notice it will note N....

Mine does that. The gears letters on the gear box dosn't say another N but when its in between P and R then dashboard indicates the N gear then R then N then D. Ive never really understood why I might have two neutral gears. Maybe the clutch has to engage into N to shift gears? Hmmmmmm.....

Eather way...Just another weard cool thing about my Smart

Having very little knowledge about manual transmissions/read unable to drive a manual, I thought if you just push the clutch in you were basically in neutral? Same thing here as it is an automated manual. It has to "push the clutch in" and it is basically in neutral?

Technically, if the trans is not in a gear, it is in neutral. if the clutch pedal is depressed, or the actuator is energized, it is in an uncoupled state and not really in neutral. I know, just a technical wording thing, unless you are taking a test or something it doesn't matter.

I went round and round on a car the customer said makes noise when he puts it in neutral. Finally figured out he meant pushed in the clutch pedal and the throwout bearing was making noise

That would be correct. If the shifter is in-between gears (or the module thinks it is) it'll indicate N...and it will roll freely if you let it (don't ask me how I know).

Now, if the shifter is not in-between gears and it is still indicating N anyway, I'd have that checked!

New to Smart and my 2010 Bumble Bee...

Took time today on Valentines Day to read about the 451 cars...

Thanks for ALL the well stated things I Never Knew until I read up on them Here...

I only have ONE Key and Keep it Protected in Hand or Pocket Always Until I'm in the drivers seat and then into the ignition.
Leaving the car, I always take key out unless a passenger is staying IN the car.

BTW: This 2010 IS My wife's car... Used Bought, I drove it home on Trick or Treat day 2016... She has actually driven it 5 times and I seem to be the fuller time driver...

BIG SMILE FROM ME....

signed....BUBBIE
