Adding A/C in a Pure?

I was told by me SmartCenter representative that Smart dealerships don't add A/C units on Pure's that weren't ordered from the factory that way. Is this true?

No, it isn't. A member has already asked this question and was told by his local dealership that it can be installed there.

There has been talk on other threads about how much it cost to add fog lights and the tach and speedo compared to the cost of getting them as factory options. If it costs $600 to add AC as a factory option, I can imagine that it might cost $1800 to install it after the fact. Being able to add it and having it make economic sense are two different stories. I think it would make more sense to look for an orphaned Passion or Pure with AC than to buy a Pure and add AC later.

The entire inside of the car would need to be stripped out, engine dropped, undertray removed, all front panels, front suspension and steering removed just to fit the parts.
New centre console required and electrics would need coding.

This was a big NO on all the previous smarts, not even the 3rd party companies wanted to try. Only a few DIY'd examples were ever done.
