May I ask why you are switching from a Fit to a smart?
As the wait goes on (I reserved my smart 10 months ago), I identified the Fit with a manual transmission as what I will buy if my smart does not come through before my 10 year old Saturn gives up the ghost.
Naturally the Fit costs somewhat more (my pure totals at $12,920 before adding in destination, sales tax, dealer docs and the rest). But for only $1,000 ($13,950 MSRP) more, then you're getting more car as well. The mileage is 6 mpg worse (28/34) - but saving 8% because it uses regular gasoline. Then it also has a real 3 yr. 36,000 bumper to bumper warranty (and 5 yr /60,0000 drivetrain). It also gets to 60 mph in 9.3 sec. instead of almost 13.
So, I'm curious. If I may, what's in a smart Pure for you? Parking, perhaps?
Take care, Larry
Well this is more because there is only one usable car between two individuals at my place. I do in fact love the fit, but I never use the extra space so a 2 person vehicle that is cheaper works fine for me. Most likely the fit will in some way become my S.O.'s vehicle once that happens. If it was just me I'm not sure if I would do it.
Larry, have you ever seen the bumper sticker that the worst day of fishing is better than the best day of working? Think about that, and the fact that nobody ever wrote that getting into their Fit "put a smile on their face."
Some people swear by Consumer Reports and others go for the gusto.
I have a Fit Base with automatic. Great car, around town average is 33-34. on a 1200 mile round trip, with the Fit loaded and running 75+ we got 41 MPG.
We are keeping the Fit, the Smart will be mine for back and forth to work. My wife's baby is a 06 CLS500, but when going shopping or to short hops around town she takes the Fit., which mean I drive my 01 Lightning to work as 12 MPG. The 56 Fairlane is a cruiser that doesn't come out to play very often.
I went with a pure because I really prefer manual steering, and windup windows. Don't think I've ever owned a car with power steering in my life, except the 1960 Cadillac I bought for $75 and had for 6 months until the steering box fell off (sheared bolts).
Didn't need any of the options, and although I would have liked the paddle shifters, they weren't important enough to go the next level up. No radio, I will put in an amp of some sort for the iPod and leave it at that. No A/C and alarm only, thinking it might save me a little on insurance. (Never owned a car with an alarm either); this will be a nice learning experience all around.
I feel a bit like Rip Van Winkle sometimes, without the beard.
Should be fun!
I also ordered a Pure. Red w/black tridon. ONly extras I ordered were AC and a radio. I didnt want a see thru roof or power windows. Alum rims just leak air in the winter. It saved me $800 or so over a Passion.
I did tell the dealer though that I would take an orphan if one came up between now and when mine finally shows up. Im an 1199. But as of now, no word yet
Carnut,
What chrome accessories?
What are the hubcaps you mentioned. Are these after market, or dealer add-on? Is there a list of accessories available some where? A website that has SMART swag. Know of anyplace where I can get a Yellow gas cap to replace the black one? I'll have a silver tridion and that black circle really breaks up the look IMO. #1200 Apr/Nov.
my res # was 4293111173, i got my pure on 1/21/08, and immediately posted a video on youtube (1000+ views in 6 days) and posted a pic here, my car arrived at the dealer on 1/19/08. i got just the AC and alarm, i'll pop in an HD radio, i have to get a facia panel to mount the radio, get those on e-bay.
Did you consider the heated seats?
Looks like it gets pretty cold there....
I had heated seats in my VW Golf. I never used them. My wife did though. The car will warm up in a short period of time. I dont really see any need for heated seats
Got a reservation on a white Pure....no options. Can live without A/C in michigan. Its a minimalist thing, kinda like a motorcycle. Will put own radio in, and I'd like the tach also, but not the clock, am also intrigued by the clear roof and am considering it even with the heat gain. Reserved Aug 4, so hoping for a summer delivery......the absolute best time for a new car.
