Yeah, they should be marketing like Saturn and Scion. But I think you can still get some kind of discount as long as the dealer is participating in the Costco program. The smart may be too new in the US right now.
I am also considering a Yaris. I see that many people are getting in the high 40's for MPG's on that car and mid 30's for the city driving. That's pretty much why I wanted a smart car in the first place. When I saw "29/36" on the Yaris, I said, "Blah! I'll take a smart." Many people seem to be absolutely thrilled with this car:
Yaris consumer reviews. I haven't test drove a Yaris, so I don't know if I will like them. It will cost more money for me to service this car since it has a conventional automatic transmission. And if it were to get into any minor fender bender, it would cost more to repair. Also, I don't know if it comes with stability control the way the smart does. I will probably go to Toyota tomorrow and check this out. I will have to weigh the costs of the Yaris with the Costco program or buying a new fortwo.
It would be awesome if any dealer in the state would participate in the Costco program. I would be willing to drive hundreds of miles to pick up the smart car if it was possible to knock off $1,000 or so. If they are in the program, they may not sell it for invoice, but it would be nice to get it a few hundred above and not pay the $499 dealer fee.
