Carbon Dioxide Emissions???

Everyone talks about mileage. I'm interested in carbon emissions. I heard a rumor that it was the best in the country. Anyone know how smart stacks up?

You can get the EPA figures at http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/findacar.htm . A smart is 5.1 tons per year for comparison purposes. CO2 emissions are directly related to fuel burned, so again the Toyota Prius and Honda Civic hybrids are probably the only ones that edge out a smart.

Plug in

Let me see, "if" I drive a plug in electric that is zero emissions right! Now I do a search on mercury pollution and it is the dang electric company is causing 99% of that burning coal an trading poison credits rather than cleaning up. Huh? Look at the entire life cycle of the machine and our smarties look very good to me. Don't get caught in the smoke and mirrors.
what does this company say "Open you mind"

You're right Karl

Everytime I'm asked the "Mileage" question and respond with an average of 35MPG, folks seem unimpressed (yes, even my wife).

I never miss an opportunity to let these folks know that the SMART story is not all about MPG. If you look at the carbon footprint over the lifecycle (Production, Use, Disposition) you'll find that the car is built in a state of the art green building, produces the lowest carbon footprint during use and is 95% recyclable.

Karl is correct that the the reports on carbon footprint only account for the use part of the product and do not account for the disposition of the batteries of the hybrid products.

Overall SMART is a VERY smart choice for being "green".
