Cloth interior/ Scotchguard

I choose to go with the cloth interior since the last 5 cars I have owned have all been leather. I was wondering if its ok to scotch guard it, as a protectant?

I have a penchant for expensive (not that expensive, but expensive for my blood! ) purses and I swear by scotchgard and a tide-to-go pen. Just spray the scotchgard on a non-visible spot on the interior and wait at least a full day, maybe 2, to make sure it doesn't discolor. Then do about 3 full coatings that are very thin, not thick coats.

Indeed you can. I wanted a tan interior when I originally ordered my Passion in '07--leather wasn't available in that color, so I opted for the beige fabric. I Scotchguarded the entire interior fabric area (seats, doors, carpets, dash) with several coats. It still looks as good as when I picked it up at the dealer.

I personally don't use scotchguard because it contains PFCs. In this modern world they are everywhere but I prefer to limit my exposure to them as much as possible. They build up in the body over a lifetime and can be absorbed through skin contact (they also don't degrade in the environment, so they show up everywhere). As more studies are done about PFCs their toxicity rating keeps getting upgraded.

I had thought Scotchguard was off the market for those reasons. I have been supprised to see it around lately.

Scotchgard - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In 1999, the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) began an investigation into the class of chemicals used in Scotchgard, after receiving information on the global distribution and toxicity of perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS), the key ingredient of Scotchgard.[3][4] For these reasons, in May 2000, 3M announced the phaseout of the production of PFOA, PFOS, and PFOS-related products.[5]

3M reformulated Scotchgard and since June 2003 has replaced PFOS with perfluorobutanesulfonic acid (PFBS).[6] PFBS has a much shorter half-life in people than PFOS (a little over one month vs. 5.4 years).[4] This action by 3M sharply reduced the bioaccumulative potential of Scotchgard. PFOS is now a persistent organic pollutant (POP) candidate before the Stockholm Convention.

Scotchgard? Auto Interior Fabric Protector

Your local WalMart should have it. Check the auto and camping department shelves...

Target also has it, apparently.

Super Target, on the same row as dish soap. Why? I don't know. I had to have an employee show me where to find it!
