Driver mirror shakes

Hey all, does your driver mirror shake like crazy at highway speeds? I test drove the cabrio at dealer.. it does it to.. My lit red cabrio does it. I have an old 91 ford escort and it doesnt do it ... why does my new 2008 car have a shaking mirror.

Dealer couldnt find anything wrong with it but why does it shake soooo much.. like an old car... shouldnt do this.. The passenger side doesnt move at all..

Any help to fix this would be greatly appreciated

mike

How could they not find anything wrong with it? It either shakes or it doesn't. And it's not designed to shake!

(Well, who knows with smart, maybe that's a design feature called 'auto-variable viewing angle')

I wouldn't accept that answer from the dealer.

You might want to move this thread to General Discussions to get more feedback.

Hi,

My Cabrio left Mirror Shakes at every bump. We tested some other Smarts at the dealer and they all did it. I also contacted 2 friends of mine who have new Smarts and theirs shake too. So I assumed it just part of the Smart personality.

Maybe thats why the drivers door opens in side impact in the crash test. Something is defective.

I do have a complaint about the limited sight offered by the side mirrors.
They may be cute in design to accomodate the rest of the smart, but fuctionality is therefore limited. I must always look to my right to make sure I'm not going to merge with a car just right behind me.
My center mirror vibrates when the car accelerates casually in automatic. It resonates to the low engine rpm and when that goes up, it stops. Minor issues I guess.

I took mine to the dealer in Jax, FL and their inspection results were that they were not able to duplicate my vibrating mirror...???? When I came back all I did was set it up for me in ANOTHER smart and WALA!! that one vibrated also. To this the technitian said " that is normal and is part of the design of all smart cars" my jaw dropped... I cannot believe the incompetence of the staff we entrust our smarties to!

I asked him if then the passengers mirror is broken because that one does NOT vibrate?

OK, so what is different between the left and right mirrors? For one thing, the left mirror shares the same plastic triangle that holds the radio antenna; the right mirror doesn't. Perhaps the antenna vibrates in the wind and transmits the vibration to the mirror. I would try removing the antenna and see if the vibration goes away. If so, a stubby antenna may be called for. As I recall, rrrucke, who reports no vibration, has such an antenna installed.
