I drove a 2009 (non-Brabus) a couple of days ago. It's shifting is WAY smoother than my 2008. I was surprised, because I thought the 2.0 flash made the 08 the same as the 09.

Not so.
Thanks for that info! That means I will only buy a 2009 smart and nothing else. I will have to wait a while for the 2009's to come down. Right now all of the smart's I see under $13,000 are pretty much all 2008 models. That's probably why there are floods of people trying to unload them.

I wonder if there might be some issue with your 2008. I've driven several 2009's, including one as a loaner for several days, and All Ball feels identical to those cars in the way he shifts (2008 with 2.0 update).
Other than the reduced creep function (and maybe hill hold - haven't tried that) I don't find the 09 shifts much differently than our 08. Maybe a little bit smoother but it's not a huge difference IMHO.

I dunno, but the difference in shifting was remarkable. Going in for my 20K service tomorrow, so will have chat with service manager.
Suze - check out the new shirts while you're there! You might want to bring along an extra $20 for a sexy little pink number. I'd expect we should see them up on scp-parts.com in a couple days. Nice graphic. If you want a preview, look over at facebook under smart center Portland or smart center Denver.

Why is there a 20k service? What do they do for that service? I was just planning on buying one and changing the oil once per year and the transaxle lube and that's it.
Like I said in previous posts, that costs me almost nothing since I do it all myself.
I am hoping to be a smart owner by January or February 2010. I'm trying to save the cash to maybe buy a used one. Hopefully I will have at least $10,000 to $12,000 cash saved by then. The cheapest smarts I've seen used have been in the mid $12k range for a passion with very low miles.
Looks like me and you have the same goals, except i'm aiming at a new Brabus Coupe (yay for being in debt forever because of it! lol)
