I am getting ready to buy a Smart Cart FourTwo and thinking of a yellow one with the convertible roll back top . . not the true convertible.
First where do I get an owners manual to see where things like fluid levels are checked and maintenance information (see what I can do myself) and also, more information about this battery issues that some in here have discussed and/or the "upgrade 2.0" information and how to learn if this has been done to the car I might be buying.
Lastly, any input anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated as I have been following this car from day one and am now ready to make the purchase but need to know more about how the car would work out with me and IF it really gets 41 or more miles per gallon?
Hello and welcome,
You can find the Owner's Manual at left under "Site navigation", "Helpful Links"...
Yellow is not offered anymore...
As for DIY maintenance, check HTTP://owners.smartusa.com/Operate_And_Service.aspx

Actually I'm looking for a used Cabriolet. I was gonna buy a hi mile 8 to 12 y/o mustang convertible like i had previously but I like the idea of having my ragtop so to speak in a 40 mpg vehicle. I much prefer to enjoy more riding than a super hot look. Besides, the yellow looks HOT.
With those removable side posts, it becomes a true convertable in my opinion. Yellow was a very popular color in the US, but not the world... so they discontinued it. You might get lucky and snatch a yellow one. Or in a longshot, see if anyone is willing to rid of their yellow panels. I easily attain 40 mpg when it's warmer, and that's not really trying to get it either. Cruisin' along, I guess you can say!
If you find a good deal on a convertible with the options you want, I wouldn't worry about the color much. You can always buy and install the yellow panels or swap with someone else. A new yellow version of the Pure will be released in April, so yellow panels should be available.
If you want to research fuel mileage, check out the smarts on Fuelly.com. Of course, fuel mileage depends greatly on your driving conditions (city, rural, short/long trips, etc.), and driving style (laid back, pocket racer, etc.). I commute 75 miles a day and have very little city driving, but I don't do anything special. I stay in the mid-40s spring/fall and it drops in the winter and hot summer, of course. My average is down a bit due to this winter!
Hey, thanks to all for the responses. Now comes the best part!
OK, I ended up buying a one owner red Cabriolet with 3613 miles on it (still has the plastic stickers on the floor and the mats in the rear) and drove it home from Columbus, OH and wow what an experience. I LOVE IT !! Formerly had owned a red Mustang convertible that I had to sell in order to put a roof on the house two years ago but now instead of buying another "stang" I just said, I wanna toy! It's a blast. A head turner and wow what a stereo. I rummaged the manual but having come across what the hockey puck is on the windscreen nor the location of the spare tire, but otherwise I do know how to remove the rails and store them. Great car and will definitely enjoy the milage over the Mustang from previous experience.

Hockey puck is for the auto wipers/lights
No spare
There is an air pump and can of goop in the passenger side floorboard on your way to the battery
Yup. Gotta go check out those little compartments too. I also read about an "upgrade 2.0" and something about a "battery going dead" but not after the upgrade kind of thing and want to learn more about that. Know that one?
