how fast you can drive your smart in the US?

hello everybody,

as far as i know it´s not possible to drive as fast as you want or as fast as possible on the streets in the US, isn´t it?
or are there still possibilities to do this?

yesterday i did a new speed record verified with my "tomtom one xl"-gps

151 km/h *lol* (you can read it in the right corner of the gps)

greets
CM50K from germany

We have speed limits. Generally 55-65 Miles per hour. Out west, on some highways it's a bit higher. The fortwo is governed to go no faster than 90 mph. You'll have to convert this data to metric, sorry.

151 * 0,62 = 93,62 mp/h

Like smartbob said, most states have a speed limit of 55-65 MPH over here. There are some with 70 and 75 MPH limits though.

In the Washington, DC area - very few people seem to follow the limit. The highways are either 55 or 65, but traffic seems to move at 75 to 85.

I predict that my smart isn't going to need cruise control - on days when I have to head up to the airport on I-95, I'll just mat the pedal and stay in the right lane.

I drove my smart on Easter on the interstate ,most of the way around 70 ,I do have to admit it does take a little getting used to without cruise control, it does take 2 hands on the wheel also,I don't know maybe as I get older ,I could care less with how fast a car can go as long as I get there in one piece

How fast?

OK. Here in Ohio there are many many potholes in the road, both off and on the freeway so it is not always wise to test the car for speed and endurance of bumps and grinds. But I know for a fact that the smart car will do 90. I think I am just as surprised as all of the others I passed. I did feel there was much more in him, but because I don't feel like getting a ticket, today I will keep it to within a reasonable speed. I realize that the motor is governed, govenored..... I know it is regulated, but I think I might have seen it peek-a-boo 91. Don't tell Dave Schembri or PAG Russ

Yes, there are speed limits except for a few times a year. See this link >http://sscc.us/

There are various speed limits as stated - but it is *possible* to exceed them...

i've gotten mine up to 87 on the interstate, the steering gets really twitchy going that fast. i'm used to power assisted rack and pinion, but to someone used to fully automatic steering, it might be frightening.

i'm trying to get it up to 90, i want to see what happens when i hit the speed limiter, as i've never done that before.

The car doesn't seem much different between 55 and 75. Very stable and keeps up just fine with traffic. Haven't felt the need to go much faster because I am already attracting enough attention.
