I put in my reservation a couple days ago and would like some thoughts on this subject. Thanks Rick

I am not because in 2years the Micro-hybrid SMART will be released in the US so I will be trading my SMART in for that one.
However for those plan to keep theirs more than 2 years I would STRONGLY recommend adding the SMART extended warranty. Alittle extra would not hurt to protect your investment.
When I get the 2010 Micro Hybid SMART ForTwo then I will get the extended warranty. I will probably get it extended out as far as possible.

The finance guy from my dealer told me you have the 1st year/12,000 miles to decide if you want to get the extended warranty. I am planning to decide on getting extended warranty towards the end of this year. Right now, I am leaning towards getting it as I am most likely keeping this car for more than 2 years.

After researching this subject on this board and considering the many comments previously posted by others, I have taken the advice and not purchased the extended warranty from the Smart dealer. FWIW, I will probably get it now from www.warrantydirect.com - I am not sure we will keep the Smart past 2 years, so having it still under warranty at the time of sale may be helpful.

Its speculation right now, and I frankly think it isnt going to happen, not in the time that short a time frame. The Micro Hybrid is essientally a start motor stop motor seamless operation. Its half a hybrid in the fact that it retains the type of driveline from a traditional hybrid, minus the expensive and heavy batteries.
