Blizzak LM-18's are still $68 and $84 a tire depending on the size at tirerack.com before tax and shipping and show in stock. Discount Tire had free shipping earlier before Christmas. I'm not certain if that offer is still valid. It pays to shop around.
We've driven in 2+ inches here and had no issue with stock tires. Like everything else with the car...a short learning curve at first...but OK then. We get real snow a few times....8+ inches....that will keep the Smart home and Jeep on the road....but that's the same it's been for many years now!
I drove home when michigan was getting blasted with that blizzard last thursday (i think) and I must say I got home (20 mile drive from work) but going down the unplowed highway was terrible I could hear the front bumper hitting the snow on the road. I have stock tires. The drive kinda sucked but it also kinda impressed me also. I mean I got home so I guess thats all I can ask for! So far traction control is aggressive but it work perfectly as for as I am concerned.
