Locking the car without the key

I haven't seen this elsewhere, so here goes. I am used to locking the car with a button on the door and then leaving the car. It has become so instinctual that I put my key in my purse before I even leave the car.
Now I have no button and am wondering, is there a way to lock the car before you leave it without using the key? there is a lock button on the dash but it doesn't lock with the door open. Any ideas or am I doomed to have to retrain myself into keeping my key out (yes, this habit is hard to break)?

The smart should train you well on how to properly lock the door. Push the little button on the key after exiting the vehicle. Then put the key away. Repeat until you get it right.

I was afraid that's what I'd hear. Retraining at this age, especially in the smart way of doing things;), is so difficult!

The sales guy told me that the plug on door key hole can be pulled out and you could use that to un/lock the door.

I am sure they have done it this way to make it very difficult, if not impossible to lock your keys in the car. Although some on the other thread seem to think you can, I sure have not found a way. Pretty clever really.

And yes, training on using the key fob shouldn't take too long, although it would be nice if it was easier to tell the unlock from the rear window release in the dark.

This works on the 450, but I'm not sure if it works on the new kids. It is also the ONLY way to accidentally lock your keys inside the car.

1) To lock your keys inside your car, close both side doors, use key to open rear hatch window. Press door lock on key to lock doors. Drop key inside hatch area. Close hatch. You have now locked your key inside your car. The only way to get your key out without a locksmith is to have made a mechanical key (for such an emergency) to open the rear hatch and retrieve your key.

2) To lock your doors without the key, shut both side doors, but open rear hatch as in 1) above. Take long pole and use it to tap the "door lock" mechanism in the middle of the dash. Take pole out or leave it in car and close hatch. You've now locked the doors without using the key.

As long as you don't leave anything valuable inside the car, you're probably doing them a favor in leaving your car unlocked. That way they can not only view the outside of this amazing car, but the inside as well!

Well, thanks for the lesson. Next time I want to lock the key in the car, I know how.
Oh, and #2 does answer my original question, but seeing as I rarely carry a pole in the car...
Thanks for the amusing responses. I will adjust.

See page 250 in your manual...

Locking the vehicle
If you can no longer lock the vehicle using the
remote control and you do not have a spare
transmitter battery at hand, please proceed
as follows:
>Open the driver's door.
>Press the central locking switch
The indicator lamp on central locking
switch 1 comes on, when the starter switch
is in position 1.
The indicator lamp on central locking
switch 1 flashes, when the starter switch is
in Position 0.
>Remove the key from the starter switch,
take it with you, and close all doors.
The vehicle is now locked and the anti-theft
warning system is armed.
