Metallic paint a good option?

Does anyone have experience with metallic paint? Does it hold up well or does it show every ding and scratch? I was thinking of getting the blue metallic passion with black safety cell and black leather interior.

There's another thread somewhere about possible issues with the metallic paint. It got me thinking about going to one of the solid colors - but that's all subject to change before my reservation comes in.

The blue will scrach and show Black under the paint. but for $800 or $900 you can change the color if you want. thats one of the cool thing about this car. I'm just going with white you can beat the crap out of it and its still WHITE

I think with this car, it makes most sense to go with a solid color as the plastic will be the same color through and through. Deep scratches will not be very apparent, and a clear coat can be locally applied if a deep scratch has to be buffed out (maybe cheaper to just get a new panel). The metallic paints need to be handled the same as on any other car and will be difficult to get an exact match if a repair is required.

Since the last time I had a small ding it was over $500 to fix it, replacing one panel with be pretty cheap. And for $800 the whole car can change color? Great!

Does anyone know whether there are pre-painted replacement panels for a silver, red, or blue? Or, do you need to order it black and have it painted?

According to the accesories catalog, they come colored or painted if metallic. The price will most likely be $12-1300 for the set. $800 sounds too cheap.

My dealer mentioned $800-something for non-metallic colors , and $1100-something for the metallic colors
