I was just peeking at the NCAP crash results and I noticed that the side air bags are not checked off and in reading the description it states that side airbags are optional and were not fitted to the test car.
Given that info I wonder if the car with side airbags, which are standard on the US cars, would have merited a higher rating for passenger protection? Seems like it
Not only do we here in North America have standard airbags and your euro counterpart smart owners dont but we also have extra beams in the doors for side crash protection. i had a 2005 smart here in Canada and the CDN spec cars had this added, the euro and USA Zap cars did not. North American cars are built to a higher standard.
