Need headlight info

This is buried in the DRL thread; thought I'd post here for more visibility:

Can anyone verify the smart headlights are positive side switched or GSS (ground side switched?)

Info is needed to decide which type DRL module will work. Thanks!

Well, isn't it Kane (evilution) who asked in the first place?

A desperate move...

Sent an e-mail to smart USA this morning; we'll see what the experts say.

of course I do (as long as I understand the question correctly)

The earth from the light stalk goes straight to ground so that has to have live switching. The earth from the headlights go straight to a ground point so again, the positive is switched.

Haha, of course not, I have the wiring diagram and no need for DRL

Now that Kane has answered the question, I'm curious about which DRLs you are thinking about? I'm leaning toward the upgraded AEAs: http://www.automotiveelectronicacces...aeapn480hd.htm

This is the one that prompted the question, as they took the time to go into the two types of headlight wiring systems:

$80, so more expensive; still looking into them.

Sounds pretty simple, find something that goes on with the key, set up a relay and connect the headlamps to it.
The fun with diodes and resistors would start if you want to reduce voltage for daytime but bulbs are cheap and EZ to replace, figure a pair a year at 12V.

Please let us know how that works out on your smart.
