I would buy a pure if I could get one with red interior. That's about the only show stopper for me on that model. I'd rather buy my own rims instead of paying all that extra money for the ones that come on the passion. Plus I could put on Eibach springs for $200 bucks and have it drive like a Brabus without paying the $4000+ premium for a Brabus version.

I would be thrilled to buy a pure that came the way I wanted:
-red interior
-radio delete (I have my own radio and amp)
-day time running lights
-fog lights
-a/c
-alarm system
-power steering

I'd be a happy camper if I could get a pure configured like the above.

It's looking like the passion I want will be well over $17,000 out the door.

I've been going over a spread sheet and even putting a whopping $12,000 down payment, I'll still end up paying $5400 or so in loan interest in 3 years on the balance because of my credit. It's going to take too long to save up $17,000 cash. I want this car no later than January. I guess I will have to buy a used one for cash. This is a real buzzkill.

Homeslice for all your posts about money and such maybe buying a car isn't such a good idea for you right now. I'm seriously not trying to be a ass it's just seems like your situation isn't so conducive to buying a new car. I've seen your posts over the forum and I keep seeing this underlying theme of omg how am I going to get into this car. I wish you luck in your endeavors to get one.

I never said it was. I'm talking about the future, not now.

All of the articles say to compare to the fortwo to the Yaris, Prius or Civic and those cars are MORE expensive than the fortwo, get worse gas mileage (except for the Prius) and cost a HELL of a lot more to maintain.

The fortwo can use a couple quarts of 75W90 gear lube for the transmission and I'm good for 100,000 miles. With an automatic in any of the other cars, I'm looking at a good couple hundred bucks to do a premium transmission flush, not to mention the hassle of having to drive all over town to find a place that has a flushing machine.

The smart can be 100% serviced in my driveway for nearly all oil and filters. That right there will save me thousands over the life of the vehicle. The only thing I would need to bring the fortwo in for would be to put new tires or a computer upgrade.

It's such a buzz kill that many people on here have these cars and all I can do is look at them. I have a beautiful BMW sitting in the yard and can't even afford to drive it. It's about 8 months past due on the payments.

The sad thing is, the guy with the Lincoln truly saved an enormous amount of money by putting a generator on back and putting that window A/C unit it. I'm sure the cost of all of that was probably at least 1/4th to 1/5th to replace the factory A/C unit in the car itself.

The outlay for the Lincoln's A/C upgrade did cost more than repairing the factory unit, but it's cheaper for me to run over-night than the big block. Plus... the generator serves double duty as the power supply to my house:

Thanks Jetfuel.

Dude, I have to agree with fpage77, if your in this shape now, you need to spend your money on a good financial advisor, not a car. Your credit is sunk, you need a good reality check, not a smart...

I'm going to be debt-free in a few months and won't have a car once the BMW is gone. We need to replace it. $500 dollar junkers are not in my game plan. And neither is a $30,000 Prius.

I am hoping to have $12,000 cash saved up by January.
