Passion Rear Glass Water LEAK?

Anyone else have this problem?

When I raise my rear glass, water drips in from the passenger side at the top of the glass, from under the molding that covers up the wiper motor.

I've taken this molding off and the water is coming from between the glass and the outside trim on top of the glass. Water is just gathering around the connection for the rear defroster on the glass....NOT GOOD!

I thought that maybe the rear washer hose was leaking, as the water appears even if it hasn't rained for days. Looked at removing the outside trim on top of the glass but it appears that you have to remove the glass to take that off. Can't get to the screws.

Just wanted to run it by the SCOA family before I take it in to the smart center.

Unfortunatly the rear glass is known to develop leaks. Last I heard, it requires the rear glass to be replaced as they are bonded from the factory. My 2008 had that problem.

Thanks for the 'heads up'. I think I'll email the service manager at SCI and tell him my problem. I'm sure they'll want me to bring it in, so I guess I had better make plans to switch cars with my wife for a day.

Bummer, I'll miss my smart.........

Post #8: Post Your Warranty Claims

Looks like you get a new rear hatch glass.

Looks like you guys are right.....AGAIN!

I got this reply from SCI just a few minutes ago:

"It sounds like your smart needs a new rear window frame assembly. We have those in stock. The repair just takes a couple hours to complete. Just let me know when you would like to bring your smart in."

Bad thing is now I'll have to pay to have my rear glass tinted.......AGAIN.

Not happy about THAT but I AM grateful they have the glass in stock. Guess it's kind of a 'wash'.

when they were going to replace my 2008 rear hatch (glass) I had to wait for the parts to come in. They had a big backorder on them.. Of course it never got installed as the car had other ideas....Glad they have them in stock!

I saw in the link that 'jwight' provided that someone else posted they had theirs replaced in June of 08.

my concern is that if he had HIS replaced in JUNE of 08 and my smart was built in NOVEMBER of 08, did they not come up with a 'fix' for this leak and most importantly, will it happen again....when I'm OUT OF WARRANTY?

Same Problem...

3 days after I purchased my used 2009 451 with 1800 miles on it from the Smart dealership, I noticed a leak on the inside middle of the back window. I contacted the dealership and they had me bring it in. The mechanics had checked the vehicle when they got it in and they had ordered the replacement window already. The Sales staff didn’t know it needed to be fixed before it could be sold. They replaced the window with no questions and were very quick and apologetic about it. I have had no problems since.

My wife is taking the smart in on 12/2 for it's rear window replacement. No word yet from SCI as to 'if' they'll re-tint the glass. He kind of avoided addressing that issue in his response to my email.

I'll post an update as I have more information.

I doubt that they will re-tint the glass. They weren't able to replace the graphics across my rear window when they were going to replace my rear hatch. It is a non-smart item and I don't think smart would pay for it.
