Reprogrammed Transmission Comments

First notes on the difference

Transmission was done this morning. The drive home was on snow covered and slightly slick roads. The shifts seem to be smoother.

Before, the 1st to 2nd shift felt like the gas was removed before the clutch was activated causing the front to drop and when the gas was re-added it was well not synchronized with clutch engagement.

After upgrading, during a 1st to 2nd shift it felt like the clutch started to disengage as the power came off and that the power came off slower so the nose dip seemed less. It also felt like the application of throttle and clutch engagement were much better coordinated.

Question, Does this make for a smoother shift? I believe so.
Does there seem to be less nose dip? Yes

Is there a really LARGE difference in shifting? Not really but enough that it DOES feel different.

Paddles:

For reasons not important here, I will not use the lever to shift so I must use the paddles in the manual mode. That said, switching to the manual mode by activating a paddle is, in my estimation, a great modification.

The downside seems to be that holding the up-shift (right) paddle to put the car back in automatic mode forces the car to up-shift all the way to 5th. I will have to try this again on dry roads and under more conditions.

re; holding the right paddle for 2 seconds.

It will only force an upshift to 5th if you're in 4th and the computer deems 5th to be a reasonable shift depending on speed and load.

The other difference is the car doesn't seem to do the "butt lift" when coming to a complete stop with the car in gear.

I was on slippery streets and it seemed like it would go from 3rd to 5th when I held it for 2 seconds. Will have to do further checking when the streets are better.

Will look for the butt lift differences.

Thanks

No squatting

Dave, noticed the same for our 09 and another Dayton owner confirmed it for his 09 - no more squatting at stop lights when you hold the brakes.

I agree with Dave on the transition from manual back to Drive using the paddles! I'm heading out for dinner in a few so I'll confirm and post back later! I'll stick to 20 mph in 2nd. (Manual), then switch back to Drive using the paddle (still at 20 mph), and then flip the shifter to the left to confirm what gear I'm in! I'll let you know! I LOVE being able to drop quickly & simply from Drive to 4th. at 40 mph.....without having to pull the shifter over!!! Transmission seems smoother overall, and it does seem to hold 1st. and/or 2nd. gear longer in Drive, especially if you're aggressive on the pedal, making it seem "peppier!"

O.K., I checked it while I was out, and if you're going a certain speed (NOT accelerating), and you DON'T have an UP arrow, when you hold the right paddle it simply goes into DRIVE and stays in the same gear. IF you have an up arrow displayed, it WILL go to the next higher gear when you hold the right paddle to go back into Drive!

Thanks,

Will try to get out today and make sure mine works the same way. I say this because it would not take the programming and they had to download a new/different program to get it to take

This begins to neatly fit into the "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" category.

I am sitting in my 08 trying to imagine what this upgrade would be like.
