From what I've read the rest of the world (excluding the United States and Canada) are having none of these problems 'cause they don't have these shifters...

Can anyone who has had this done comment on whether there is either a performance hit, or MPG hit for this? My understanding was that there WOULD be an MPG hit a bit.

I see no significant difference (as in normal variances) between the MPG's on our '09 cabrio and '08 Pure (original transmission program).

Where would you get the understanding that there'd be a hit on mpg? Even a bit?

If their was an MPG hit then the 09's would have a different MPG raiting than the 08's and they do not.

Back in Fall 2008 smart did some testing. Some people had a chance to drive and rate 3 different transmission programs, none of which was the default 2008 programming.

Some concluded that the best of the 3 was such an improvement (both smoother & more responsive) that MPG must be affected, otherwise why would the original programming have been used.

Non-disclosure agreements prevented the testers from talking about the test, but it would seem that the upcoming upgrades cancel out the need for secrecy.

Eagerly awaiting for the official upgrade notification...

Also, for what it's worth, the reprogramming will include some engine control reprogramming, and as such, most likely won't be "optional" if one comes in for service.

Note that the testing was Fall 2008, not Fall 2006. It's quite probably these programs were developed long after the original code underwent a development code freeze before first production.

Development is never an issue of having obvious best solutions. There are always tradeoffs and time is one of the biggest.

Why are we hearing in this thread from those that haven't had their transmissions re-programmed? The thread title indicates that posts here are from those that have had their transmissions re-programed. When I read this thread, I don't want to hear why people don't or do want to have the re-programming done, but I do want to hear the opinions of the people that had their transmissions reprogrammed.

bcope01 - it's not obvious (to me) from the title that the original poster only wanted comments from those who already received their own reprogramming. Threads tend to take on a life of their own and 3 pages later people lose sight of the post that started a thread. It's the nature of this form of communication.

Heck - reviewing the first post, the start of this thread was an owner giving their comments on their reprogrammed transmission and wasn't a query for others to fess up their experience.
