Angel,
As to LoJak, you need to be advised that for in order for it to work, the police in the area you are in need to have the detection equipment in their car. In other words if you are in a remote area, it is highly possible that the barney five police force may not have the equipment. This is how the system worked when it first came out, but this may have changed by now, but I doubt, as the entire system was based on the police having the equipment in their trunk.

LoJack uses a proven and proprietary technology operating on a Radio Frequency allocated by the FCC exclusively for the recovery of stolen vehicles. When a LoJack-equipped vehicle is stolen, the vehicle’s owner alerts local law enforcement. Once officers complete this routine report, a silent signal is automatically sent out that activates the LoJack transmitter hidden in the stolen vehicle. Using special tracking technology donated by LoJack for squad cars and aviation units, police officers can quickly track and recover the vehicle, often apprehending the thieves and recovering additional stolen vehicles in the process.
Looks like it still works that way.

Alarm suggestion

So what aftermarket alarm do you suggest for a 2008 451 convertible?

I tried the Hornet 727T(The one where you use the factory key to activate the alarm) and it failed. They could not use that with our Smart. I ended up buying the cheapest one they had and used the existing motion sensor I had bought for the Hornet.

The biggest expense is the installation. I can't remember the brand though.
