Perfect thread, This is the kind of thing I am looking forward to. Now if we can just post all the clock and tach mounting questions and comments here that would be great. Thanks jwight!

The tach (and by the way the clock) is a trully must-have for every smart owner. It's the only way to take great care of his engine letting it the time to be warm enought before putting it in turns.
If you don't have it from the factory this should be the first gift to make to your smart

I was happy to find this one; there are so many tach/clock posts we'll never find 'em all but hopefully those interested will see this thread.

If the instrument cluster has a clock, why do we have to buy another clock to get a tach.?

You don't, but that's the only way it comes. You don't NEED the tach either since the main display tells you when to shift.

Does anyone have the pin outs for the tach connector? There are a few third party 3 cylinder tachs available. Having the pin outs would save running a wire all the way to the engine.
