smart forwo - what was your total price paid with taxes?

Being that I will have to pay cash for my smart when the time comes (thank you wonderful economy and shot credit), I would like to know what everyone paid for their cars include all taxes and fees.

Could you list a quick bullet list like the examples below?

Example:
pure - options: power steering, A/C
$14,200 - Seattle, WA

passion - options: A/C, stereo, DRL
$17,200 - Richmond, VA

(I just made those prices up as examples).
Something like that. It would be interesting to see what each person pays around the country for these cars.

If you want to break the fee's down for each thing, that woud be nice if you could either remember or take the time to look it up on your paperwork. Don't need everything to the exact penny... just a very close ball-park figure for everything.

I want to see what my reality is going to be like when I actually sit down with the F&I person to sign all of the papers.

Also, if you had a fee and were able to avoid paying it, please note the fees and what you did to get out of paying it. I know some people go to buy a car and refuse to pay all dealer fees and are able to buy the car for cash money and just pay MSRP or just above invoice and nothing else.

So a check would have to be written for almost $20,500 out the door to take this car home equipped as is, if not financing?

Yes. Note that this is a fully configured car with no dealer addons. If you're looking at an orphan the price could be thousands higher due to those addons. And, on the other hand, a car without all the goodies will cost much less.

Now I will have to do this ALL OVER again with the people who buy Honda Fit's and see what the out the door price is on those cars.

The base version of the Honda Fit that gets 31 MPG is $15,004 for the dealer INVOICE cost.

I don't see any options about adding A/C or anything. MSRP is $15,550. So I wonder what the out the door cost on this car would be vs. a smart fortwo.

I know when I went to the local Honda dealer here, they have the MSRP sticker, then they have the addendum with $300 for the paint sealant, $300 for the fabric treatment and other BS charges that cost them $10-20 bucks (their cost) to add to the vehicle. Total scam. I'm not paying that.

One of my previous new cars that I bought was from an auto broker and I bought the car at dealer invoice. So the dealer only makes the holdback. In Honda's case, they should be getting a holdback check of about $465 and any other incentives if I were to buy at dealer invoice.

The smart dealers could be getting similar... either 2 or 3% of the MSRP as a holdback check... plus all the profit they make selling the car at MSRP... then they sell you the extended warranty and they make 50% profit on those.

One of the dealers here quoted me about $20,500 out the door for a new Brabus. What do you think about that? That was a verbal quote. Think he's BSing me?

.

I would ask, if the car is made well why would I need a Paint sealant. They must not think much of the quality of their new cars

Why not consider a Pure. You live in Fla. If you need A/C in your part of the woods, (depends on how close you live to the oceans breeze) get the factory installed A/C for I think it is $600. Join a smart car group and u will probably find someone who loves to tinker with these cars. They would probably help you install a nice after market Kenwood stereo with a built-in big screen GPS. The car comes wired ready for the radio. I think Pures start around 12K ish. and get 41 mpg after the break-in period.

Not all dealers put a ton of dealer add ons on their orphans. At their one year birthday party Smart Center Dallas had over a dozen Smarts on the lot that you could buy and drive away in that day. No dealer add-on pre-installed. They ordered them with different options just like we did when they opened and the order came in about a year later. They had Pures, Passions and Carbios in many color combos and pkgs.
