Why not consider a Pure. You live in Fla. If you need A/C in your part of the woods, (depends on how close you live to the oceans breeze) get the factory installed A/C for I think it is $600.<snip>

Vicki, A/C is not an option in Florida, it is a necessity. We're not lucky enough to have pleasant temperatures on the coastline like they have in the Northwest. OK, yes, 95 v.s. 98, not much help. But, he's showing interest in a Brabus. So, clearly, he isn't interested in the cheapest car available. Good feedback though.
I'm not quite sure what any of this means - the smarts are sold at MSRP unless there are 08's sitting on a lot somewhere. A couple of dealers were giving discounts on those. And Orphans may have the prices jacked up because of dealer add-ons. The only difference in cars similarly equipped (OEM) would be dealer prep (which varies by state), taxes, and license fees. - sheureka
Yeah, the two dealers I went to had all 2009's I believe. I know the one I went to that had about 35 fortwo's told me that they were all 2009's.
So far it's looking like I will need at least $17,000 and change to drive one home if I want a brand new passion. I don't know if it will be possible to get a Honda Fit for that price or not. I am guessing a Fit will cost a lot more.

Join a smart car group and u will probably find someone who loves to tinker with these cars. They would probably help you install a nice after market Kenwood stereo with a built-in big screen GPS. The car comes wired ready for the radio. I think Pures start around 12K ish. and get 41 mpg after the break-in period.
Not all dealers put a ton of dealer add ons on their orphans. At their one year birthday party Smart Center Dallas had over a dozen Smarts on the lot that you could buy and drive away in that day. No dealer add-on pre-installed. They ordered them with different options just like we did when they opened and the order came in about a year later. They had Pures, Passions and Carbios in many color combos and pkgs.

A pure isn't much less than passion. I want the intermittent wipers, power steering and a red interior. Those are absolutely mandatory. You can't get all that in a pure. You get one color for the interior and that's it.
Right now time is on my site. All I can do is wait one month at a time. I already have 2 new cars now, but will be losing one in about 4 months and that's when it will sort of suck to only have 1 car again.

What happens if you refused to pay that dealer fee? If everyone did this and told them to go pound sand, they'd eventually have to stop with that crap. That's a total scam.

Car will be sold to the next in line. High dealer fees are normal here in Florida. Fees usually ranged from $299 to $799. Also do not forget that I got my smart more then a year ago. Orlando Smart Center is still pretty busy even now. They just sold 6 cars last Saturday.
BTW I usually do not buy the cars at MSRP and the Smart is the exception.
Last time I bought the Scion xA for my wife back in '06 I got it for $15K "out of the dealership" including all the fees and taxes (saved more then $1K). I even got free floor mats. If you ever shopped for the Scion you will know that it is very unusual because of Scion "no haggle, no hassle" policy.
Reserved 2008 Passion Coupe White/Black w/Beige Cloth interior
- Premium sound system
- Fog lights
- Tach/clock pods
- smart floor mats
$14,900ish out the door. No dealer add-on accessories except floor mats. The OH dealer didn't collect WV sales tax, so I paid that separately at the DMV.
