It seems that orphans are now available from many dealers without costly add-ons, but I reserved and waited 13 months for mine to avoid that problem.
Skip accessories/features that you don't need: power steering wasn't worth it for me, the metallic body panels/tridion weren't needed since I preferred MIC panels, wife doesn't like leather and I don't like dark interiors, heated seats weren't desirable in my situation, etc. I opted to save the money on options and buy other things later: a new set of wheels/tires, a second set of panels (red), TomTom GPS, and some other little things. But, all of this is a personal decision.
I got exactly what I wanted and nothing more. The only thing I would have done differently now is the alarm system. I would spring for that option to minimize the chance of people messing with the car.
OH dealers charge $250 in doc fees which is a ripoff, but non-negotiable at the time I bought my car.
State sales tax was paid separately, so that makes my number look better. But, that depends on the trading difference if you have a trade and sales tax, if any. So, this is highly variable from state to state and situation to situation.
