The Smart is smart, even their carpet can detect chemical and shrink.....

I had my fortwo for 8 days.

On the fourth day, the passenger side carpet started change shape. Then there are some wrinkles on it. 7th day the carpet is almost half inch smaller than before. Today I send my car to dealer for repair, they explain that there are some chemical caused the carpet to shrink, and it is not covered under warranty.

hehe.... what a Smart....

next time, when we are driving. We should always check the brake fluid, gas level, windshield fluid and carpet size...

Comments?

Interesting...

Parts should come with warranty as well.

They are blaming that chemical on you. Otherwise it would be covered under the warranty. The warranty is bumper-to-bumper, carpet included. I would ask them to show you exactly where this alleged chemical is on the carpet and how they suspect you spilled it. Just because there is a stain on the bottom-side doesn't mean it came through from the top-side.

It's disappointing to think the dealer isn't working with you on this...unless somehow either your or your passenger did spill something.

Here we go again...24 month 24,000 miles bumper to bumper except wear and tear items. A shrinking carpet due to, whatever; in 8 days ain't wear and tear. Either the battery is overcharging, creating excessive heat or the dealer used something to clean your carpet that it didn't like. The carpet belongs to you!! Don't let the dealership trash it!! Get a second or third opinion and stick to your guns with said dealership!!!

I agree, stick to your guns! That carpet on the passenger side covers a bunch of goodies that are stored under it by smart. I would have a few more words with the dealership and if they are not going to help you, go to Cust Support at Smart Corp. They willl help! 8 days old and they are saying wear and tear.....What happens after a year than?

I agree...what's the likelihood that you would do something to damage your carpet after only 8 days of ownership, let alone something real strange that would cause the carpet to change shape or shrink!
