doing checks on a battery that is probably bad and will be replaced on warranty. If their load test screws something up in the electronics, the dealer may not care to replace an entire ECC because an unknowing tech at Auto Palace hooked something up wrong. SOP on battery testing is to remove both connections so if that's done probably will be OK....if that's done, that is......

Take it to the dealer...he will probably just replace the battery on general principles. Karl just went thru this with similar symptoms..his was bad battery.
Learn from his experiences....he is probably correct in his advise to you.

An older and sometimes wiser motorhead....

A nice man from this board - RollingTones - lives less than 5 miles away from my place and offered to come and test my battery for me...

you know what the problem was? LOOSE CABLES!!! It was almost not touching the pole of the battery!!!! He tightened everything, and the car started like a champ - so strong!

How dumb was that!?!? I am so glad he came and fixed me up THANK YOU ROLLINGTONES!!!!

Reminds me a now funny but then crazy story that happened in 69. Like lots of "flower children" of the time, I drove a VW minibus from Europe to Nepal. At one point, we couldn't start the car. For three months, we did cranked it (yes, I had install a crank adaptor and made a hole in the bumper for such a situation)! To discover that the battery poles had corroded...
Three months of vain cranking. Oh well, it kept us in shape.

Amethyste, I'm glad that you're now "in charge"!

I should have mentioned, but didn't, that checking the battery could have been easily done and that that is what I would have done.
RollingTones was more on the ball than I was and kudos to him....glad you got it fixed easily anyway. Good for you and ALSO good thing to post as well cause' now we have another thing to check when this symptom springs up again. Loose cables on the battery is so elemental that even experienced guys may not have thought of that....

Be well.

John

Yes Jonnysan,
Its, true, I think maybe when the car got to the dealer, the battery was drained after its long voyage on the ship and a tech took the battery out to recharge it - he must have gotten distracted when he put it back in and didnt tight on anything - it was so loose that me and David of Rollingtones wondered how it ran in the first place...

Glad to hear it was just a loose cable... now, remember the charge goes both ways, so if you had trouble getting juice from the battery, the alternator had a time getting it back in. So, drive your car for no less than 20 minutes at least a couple times this week, to make sure you have enough charge in there. If you only do 5 days of 2-4 mile trips, and the battery's drained, you may encounter the same symptoms this week and lead you to think the battery's "bad" when it's just very low.

SuperGeek,
I do a 9 mile commute each way to work, so I think I should be fine - we'll see, that was just so weird to see the cable wiggle this much...

Battery situation resolved

You can all relax. Her ground cable was very loose. I tightened it up with a 10mm wrench and everything's fine. I would suggest everybody check the ground cables at the battery and the same-size nut (10mm) at the end of the short (7") ground cable. Both of hers were very loose. Strange.
