I guess I'm the one that is going to post all the little things I observe and hear about the car, but I like to get others input and see if they are observing the same.
I have noticed when I stop at a stop light, and have my foot on the brake, I hear this light tat-tat-tat-tat sound sometimes from the engine (not the exhaust) that speeds up and sometimes disappears completely while I'm sitting at the light. It almost sounds like something tapping against something but will speed up and sometimes goes away. When you let off the brake it goes away for sure, if it hasn't already while you are sitting. Anyone hear that on theirs? I suppose it has something to do with the transmission? I guess I'm too observant...
My smart does precisely the same thing. More noise after braking than physical knocking. Sure sounds like the exhaust (or similar) banging into something. No one has figured this out yet? Mine is VERY loud sometimes. Went to McDs this AM for coffee. Against the drive through wall it sounded like a wrench tapping on the engine or frame. With the window open, it was "Dramatic" (wall 1 foot away), and then... it went away.
you are listening to a mixture of the air intake next to you, with the window down and the sound of a 3 cylinder engine... its not as smooth sounding as a 4 but similarly oddly to a 5 cyl engine... its ok get your burger at the drive thru and try to not get the seats greasy from the fries.

Sorry, no you are wrong. This is definitely NOT a "normal engine sound". It comes and goes after braking to a stop, and is quite loud at times, windows open or closed. I expect some louder small engine noise, even some exhaust rattle (kinda like my old bug). Nope, this is something abnormal.

I emailed Max about it. Wonder if the Indy group have had any examples of this oddball noise in the service department? Hope to hear back soon, perhaps even with a good answer.
Wish the original poster would reply back. Think I'll PM him....
