Need to watch the head lamp to make sure the doors are closed. I know it is weird and I would prefer a beep if all the door are not closed and I am driving away...

If you mean the Smart I don't think you can get a chirp unless you ordered it with the alarm or add an aftermarket one

Honks & Chirps
I detest any honks or chirps. Don't place yourself off at some distance and then decide to thumb-lock/unlock the vehicle to everyone elses' annoyments. Before you leave it, verify that you have locked it. Then remember where you left it; don't use some blast to help you find it. This is another case of "I do it because I can."

I can't speak for anyone else but I don't use it just because 'I can', I use it because it is helpful, in more ways then one - not just for telling me if its locked or unlocked from a distance, but chirping an alarm has been quite handy in the past to notify people who are close to the car, whether they are about to bumper park, or leaning on the car, etc. It's had it moments in certain scenarios when the car is in sight and a little "I'm alive" chirp is quite useful

The chirp sounds small, like the car, but I would like the option not to have it sound. As an alternative to the three-chirp activation, I open the door, push the lock button, then remove the key and only get one chirp.

Hey, call me a geek but I think it sounds like a PC startup beep not a chirp. The difference is, 2 beeps or 3 beeps at PC startup means you've got problems.;)

Let us read from the manual....
The remote control has an operating range of approximately 50 ft (15 meters). This can fluctuate greatly as a consequence of local conditions (reflective or absorbing objects) and interference emitted by other radio transmission systems. Similarly, the operating range fluctuates in line with the direction from which the remote control is activated. To prevent theft, however, it is advisable to only unlock the vehicle when you are in close proximity to it.
Locking and unlocking from the outside
> Selective unlocking: Press button© on the key once. All turn signal lamps flash once.
The anti_theft warning system* is disarmed. The driver’s door and the fuel filler flap are unlocked.
• Global unlocking: Press button© on the key twice. All turn signal lamps flash once again. The passenger door and the tailgate
are unlocked in addition to the driver’s door and the fuel filler flap.
> Global locking: Press buttonª on the key.
With the doors, the tailgate(s), and the fuel filler flap closed the turn signal lamps flash three times.
The anti_theft warning system* is armed.
The indicator lamp on the central locking switch (page 85) flashes.
The interior and exterior1 lamps come on and then go out again after 12 seconds.
1 Vehicles with rain_light sensor* only.
