So far the car still runs like brand new, knock on wood, so it's not currently an issue. Also the good thing is that the engine and transmission are the same that they use in many cars. But if I need body panels or other Saturn-specific parts, it will be a hassle. I won't be able to drive to the Saturn place that was 6 miles away like I used to.

You got a HELL of a deal! I got a guy right now who has one with 6,400 miles and he's trying to sell it to me for $17,000. He said he paid over $20,000 with taxes. You made out REALLY good on that deal!!!

We want a black one with a silver cell and red interior. Has anyone seen any of those around?

They will not be *gone*. They may be marketing a different type of vehicle, but will still have access to parts under agreement for the GM Saturns... this has been part of negotiations. That being said, it's also a government backed entity right now - and there are obligations to supply parts for something like 10 years.

Look at people who bought a Daewoo. They have a hell of a time getting their cars fixed. There's people up the street from us who have a Daewoo and it took over a month for them to fix their car after it broke waiting to get the parts.
You can't compare Saturn to Daewoo. Comparing a poor quality Korean upstart (in North America) to an established 18 year old company... that's beyond asinine.

Regardless, it's a car company that left people high and dry.

Most people don't look at it that way. You can bet that I will never buy another American or Korean car ever again. No more GM, Ford, Mopar, Hyundai's or Kia's for me, thank you. I'm done with all of them. None of them will ever get my business, at any price.

No, it isn't. GM as a whole is in trouble, but no one is left high and dry, and it is not like this wasn't expected.

That's your prerogative and opinion, and you are entitled to it. Don't make statements based on it as if they are fact though...

Regardless of what you say, I'm done with them and want nothing more to do with them. For now on I will only buy Asian (excluding Korean) or German cars (i.e. the smart).

Cheers

Homes,

Probably should add France to your list as our German smart is built in France?

Couldn't have said it any better myself.

Now all they have to do is make it a French/Japanese/German/American car so that the car will have a powerful engine with some TORQUE. But that's the only things Americans should have anything to do with it. It needs the Japanese touch for reliability, the French for styling and the German for it being well made.

Garage? Who needs a garage? It fit's in a 10x10 shed with room to spare.

Yes.. like Bob Dole... Have you ever heard of retirement? Lots of people think it's required to move to Florida to retire, though really, it's not. Personally I think it's kind of odd. But then it gets the seniors off our roads for the most part, so I'm not starting a campaign to stop it.

In the year 2000.... In the year 2000.....

You've been watching too many Connan reruns. Saturn parts are all GM based, and are going to be widely available. They're mainly made by third parties that will be (are being) snapped up quickly by other, since there are literally millions of GM based cars on the roads today, and parts will be needed for decades. Where there's a way to make supply to meet a demand, someone will find a way to make profit on it and provide that supply.

Besides... Penski is going to buy up Saturn and continue it's line.

Yes.. because none of them ever go out of business... Despite the fact that several have, or are about out. Far better to have a foreign car made by a foreign distributor, because getting parts for said car made over in Europe will be so much easier than getting parts that can be made right here in the US. Isn't that right 450 owners? <crickets>

Really... That was the main reason I hesitated about buying the smart, was that parts would be exceptionally hard to get if they didn't take off. I'm still jittery on that one. But to think that about US made parts for a US made car, living in the US? I want some of what you're having... and pass the tin foil. What? I want a shiny hat too!

It's the Economy

My assumption was the reason there are so many Smart Cars available is the economy: too many people backing away from buying anything. The Smart Pure I just bought had too few miles on it to have been owned for very long (3,500). The biggest problem is that after looking around for so long for a Smart Car, I picked up my wife to get the other car home, and she laid claim to the Smart Car.
