I have a hobby that can take time away and be accused of this. We abide by a rule FAMILY FIRST we can and will bring the family to meets events etc.... IMHO this should apply here also.

I learned long ago. I have my Hobbies, she has hers. I don't want to go to knitting classes and she doesn't want to hang out at my events. If my wife is stuck at an event then wife not happy, hubby not happy.
Same for the Kids. We have family time and everyone can have personal time. Keeps life happy.
I bought mine. Then my wife forgave me.
"It is easier to get forgiveness than permission."
I love my mife, 3 kids, 6 and 2 on the way grandchildren, and I reallylike my "Passion".
