I'm just posting what I saw. We all know that even pressure on the throttle is best for fuel economy. That is where cruise control shines (and your foot and leg like it too). If I were to go to the San Joaquin Valley and pick a section of I-5 that was level and reasonably straight (and there are several stretches I can verify-groan!) and held the car speed even (a brick would work - just an example) at 53 mph - maybe it could be verified. Just watch out for all those cars whizzing past you.
I have heard that 35 mph is the optimum speed for hypermiling. Less wind resistance at the slower speed.
So somebody find a long flat stretch of road, hold the throttle even and with a scangauge, get the instant mpg. Try varying speeds between 35 and 53 mph.
This alleged MPG rating could be replicated.

I clicked on the link and it worked. Maybe you have to be registered for the site.
Try http://www.smartcarcruisecontrol.com
and look for the March 3rd update.

The car is designed to be a commuter. Don't need cruise control sitting in a traffic jam, right?
So someone is trying to make a plug in cruise control available for the 451. For those (like me) who do some long driving.

The cruise control in my Wrangler would disconnect at the lightest pressure on the clutch pedal. The way the smart shifts up and down from 4 to 5 and back, by itself, cruise control would seemingly have to be finely integrated to work at all. Perhaps a city car is just not intended to have cruise. Maybe 5th gear operation only. Anybody have any ideas?

NSCALER: I am in Japan, not America. MANY websites are blocked with no access from my location.

I guess this is just one more that I can't look at from this part of the world.

We got in a good 3 hours of testing, and one thing that was really neat was that the longest test run yielded a 109mpg outing when cruising at 53mph! Sure, that's on a banked track representing ideal conditions, but still! I didn't think the smart had >100mpg in it!"

WOW!
Above is the exact statement. You aren't really missing anything extra.
